A loan of $1,425 helped to buy fertilizers.

Afqan's story

Afqan is a 46-year-old, married refugee. He has lived with his wife, a daughter, and two sons in a settlement for internally displaced persons for a long time. His wife is a housekeeper and educates children. Sometimes she helps Afqan with farming. He has been working as a farmer for 22 years, and this is the main source of the family’s income. He raises seasonal fruits and vegetables and sells them at the local bazaar. His monthly income is 300 AZN. Afqan loves his job very much, and he knows everything about his customers’ demands. He knows that people prefer to buy fresh products from private gardens because they are always fresh and cheap. They like to eat the fruit fresh or make a juice, pie, or jam for tea. Afqan’s income is too low to cover his cost of living, and it's especially hard for him as a refugee. He has applied for a loan of 1100 AZN in order to buy fertilizers and potentially increase his seasonal harvest. He hopes that this loan will help him to increase his earnings from farming and cover all of the family's needs.
