A loan of $1,300 helped to buy leaves, fertilizers, compost to aid her coffee crops.

Raquel's story

Raquel is a hard-working woman with a great desire to excel and get ahead. She is 33 years old, has a partner and 4 children, 3 of whom study at different levels in the community school. In her youth she didn't have the opportunity to complete her studies at primary school as her parents came from a financially challenged but hard-working family. She studies for only 4 years. The different crop activities are carried out by her partner as she had been running a stall selling drinks and home-made bread which is their family income to cover the various household bills while the coffee is still in production.

Raquel is currently requesting this loan in order to buy farming supplies which will improve her coffee crops. With the help of these supplies her crops will be protected from diseases such as leaf rust and insects such as the coffee berry borer (CBB). In this way she will be able to make sure her crops and the product give a good yield and generate income for her family, as their main source of income comes from the coffee crops.

Her plans and future goals include extending her crops by buying more land in which she can work and strengthening her children's future legacy. Her dream is to see her children study at university as this will enable them to have a better chance in life.
