A loan of $350 helped to buy beehives and apiary materials for honey production.

Jeremiah's story

Jeremiah lives in Kakamega. Kakamega county is located in Western Kenya and is famous for having the only tropical rain forest in the country. Most farmers in Kakamega grow maize, but sugarcane, papaya, bananas and tea are also popular crops. The variety of crops grown in the region, as well as the abundance of vegetation in the old growth forest, make Kakamega particularly attractive for beekeeping.

Jeremiah is married and has four children. He is a village elder and a retired assistant chief (a position in municipal government). Both he and his wife practice farming where they grow sugarcane, maize, bananas and vegetables. Jeremiah is excited about beekeeping as it will earn him some income as well as provide him with honey for food.

This is Jeremiah's first loan with Honey Care and he intends to use the proceeds from his beehives to provide for his family's upkeep. Jeremiah's hope for the future is to live a peaceful life with his wife in their old age.
