A loan of $800 helped buy spirit, powder and a sterilizing machine.

John's story

John is 32 years old and lives in the town of Kachwamba in the Fort Portal region of Uganda. He is married and has 3 children, with 2 of them currently in school. For the past 5 years, John has been working hard to manage his salon, where he shaves men's hair.

To help expand his business, John has requested a loan of 2,000,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy spirit, powder and a sterilizing machine, and will help John to generate greater profits and make the business environment friendly and welcoming. John hopes that in the future he will be able to offer quality services.

John is a member of BRAC's Small Enterprise Program (SEP). The program primarily serves small entrepreneurs like John who do not have enough collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown too large for micro-loans.
