Greens Konammadevi - Kiresur Group's story

Kamalavva, the head of the Greens Konammadevi Joint Liability Group (JLG), is standing with her hand raised. She lives in Kiresur, Bagalkot, Karnataka with her husband and three children. Her husband works as a driver. One of her sons works as a daily wage worker in the agriculture fields while the other two go to school. Kamalavva owns a sheep raising farm. She also works in the fields as a daily wage worker and earns Rs 100 per day. The income is used to take care of the household expenses and for her children's education. She is now experiencing difficulty with the escalation of all daily use commodities. She is trying to develop a sheep raising farm by borrowing a loan. Kamalavva will use her loan to buy lambs and raise them. She can make a profit of Rs 8,000 – 10,000 per lamb. Kamalavva dreams that this business will become a major source of income. She even wants to send her children to a better school. The group consists of four other members. All are involved in the same business and are looking forward to this loan.
