A loan helped a member buy a large quantity of honeycombs for pressing and sales.

Mariama's Group's story

This "banc villageois" loan association was created April 22, 2007. It comprises women who share very strong solidarity links because of their companionship over the past five years, which amounts to 12 loan cycles.

The members wish to develop income-generating activities to improve their living conditions and facilitate access to basic food products. These women's main activity is small retail business, and they also grow crops in the rainy season.

Mrs. Mariama (seated at the far right with her hand raised) is the group's featured borrower. She is married and the mother of eight children, four boys and four girls. Her business is the sale of honey. She buys honeycombs from the producers and presses them to extract the honey for sales by liter.

With this new loan she intends to buy a large quantity of honeycombs for pressing and sales.

The profits generated by this activity will enable her to increase her savings and support her husband in managing family needs.
