Mougnou Group's story

The women in the Mougnou Group average 34 years of age and 3 children. They all live in traditional extended families in Tominian/Segou (the fourth administrative region of the Republic of Mali).
The women know each other through family ties and make a living trading condiments, beverages, grains and other products. After having successfully repaid their previous loans, the women in the Mougnou Group are on their 2nd solidarity loan cycle. Lidy, who is standing on the far right of the photo, intends to use the loan to buy two crates of Coca-Cola, 2 crates of Fanta and 2 crates of beer. She buys her products locally. She sells her products to a clientele consisting of both men and women for cash and often on credit.
She plans to make an average monthly profit of 20 000 FCFA that she will use to cover expenses related to healthcare, food and education costs. She will reinvest the remaining profit into her business.
