Las Estrellas Group's story

Iris (in the white blouse, 1st from right to left in the photograph) is a single woman, 38 years old, who lives with her 5 children in Santo Domingo, Suchitepequez. Iris expresses pride in the fact that her activity is raising and selling corn (the basic food in Guatemala), a product much in demand in her community. Moreover, her sales are profitable. The work permits her to obtain a good income and these earnings enable her to contribute to the family economy. Iris has continuously carried out this activity from a very young age, and as a result, she has acquired more knowledge in this area. The result is her decision to form a group with the objective of diversifying their products in the marketplace and, in this manner, obtaining better incomes to improve the family economy of group members. The loan will be utilized to purchase inputs for the cultivation and maintenance of their corn crops. Iris' dream is to be able to help her children to have a better quality of life.
