A loan of $1,600 helped a member to increase stock.

Athuman Magesa"s Manyara Group's story

Athuman M., 40, is married and has four children (ages 16, 12, 8, and 3). He has a charcoal business which he started in 1998. He works from 7am to 6pm daily and is able to make a monthly profit of around $172.

Athuman has taken out three previous loans from Tujijenge Tanzania, which he paid back successfully. He is now selling both wholesale and retail. He now hopes for a new loan to increase his stock. Athuman will share this loan with his Manyara subgroup members, who have businesses selling clothes or as food venders. Members of Manyara guarantee the repayment of loans for each other.
