A loan of $3,350 helped a member to buy fabric wholesale.

Flor De Estrellas Group's story

The “FLOR DE ESTRELLAS” communal bank is starting its fifth loan cycle with Pro Mujer, as part of the Villa Adela centre. It is made up of eight members and is run by a board of directors of which Julia is the President. The businesses which the members of the communal association run are varied and among them are: macrame crafts, selling sweets, selling fruit juices and milk shakes, local shop, guesthouse and construction services.

The loan they will take out will benefit small businesswomen of which Julia is a member. She says this is the second year she has been a member of Pro Mujer, after being invited by a friend who is a member of the institution. Currently she has a business making sportswear. She says that she started this business when she was a girl, because her father had a workshop where the whole family worked. Over a period of time she decided to set up in business independently.

The loan she is taking out is to increase capital to buy fabric wholesale, which she will buy in the wholesale stores. She will use this to make up items to sell which customers have ordered. This type of work enables her to generate an income to support her family, since she is married and has eight children.

When asked what she likes about Pro Mujer, she says she likes the health training and the savings which the institution offers.
