A loan of $1,475 helped a member to buy fertilizer.

Mrs. Sorn Ra's Village Bank Group's story

There are eleven members in the village bank located in Chamka Khai Village in Kampong Chhnang Province. Mrs. Sorn R., 29 years old and mother of three children, is the village bank president. She is a farmer who earns a small revenue from harvesting rice to support her family. On her plantation, she now faces a problem because her field is infertile, thus badly affecting her crops. To solve this problem, Mrs. Sorn R. is asking for a loan to buy fertilizer to improve her field conditions and grow more crops. Her husband, Mr. Leng Soeurn, is a palm juice collector who collects palm juice to process into palm sugar or wine.

All the members in the village bank loan have end-of-term loans and they are not required to pay any principal on the loan until the very end of the loan term. End-of-term (EoT) loans are AMK's main product because it is the most beneficial to Cambodia's poor. It allows them to repay portions of the principal whenever they are financially able to. Most clients start to make payments many months before the end of the loan term. Almost all of AMK's clients make their payments on time.
