Benkan Group
In this Group: Assan , Afou , Maimouna A , Maimouna
The 4 members of the Benkan group are married women with an average age of 35 and, on average, 4 children. Most of them live in traditional families in Ouayerma I, one of the popular districts of Sikasso town, in the 3rd administrative region of Mali. They are on their 7th group loan with the MFI Soro Yiriwaso in order to be able to satisfy their customers' needs.

Afou, standing on second on the left in the picture, is the group member who sells wax pagnes (highly colourful and decorative West African fabric). She plans to use her loan to buy 20 pieces of wax pagne fabric at the Grand Market so that she can resell it locally to a retail clientèle made up of men and women for cash or credit. She expects to make an average monthly profit of 35 000 francs, part of which will be used to repay the loan and its interest and part of which will be saved.

Les quatre membres du groupe Benkan sont des femmes mariées avec une moyenne d’âge de 35 ans, et ont en moyenne 4 enfants. Elles vivent la plupart dans des familles traditionnelles à Ouayerma I un des quartiers populaires de la ville de Sikasso 3ème région administrative du Mali.
Elles sont à leur septième prêt solidaire avec l’institution de micro finance Soro Yiriwaso afin de satisfaire le besoin de leur clientèle.
Mme Afou débout à la deuxième position de la gauche vers la droite sur la photo dans ce groupe des femmes Benkan, fait la vente des pièces de pagne wax.
Elle compte acheter avec son pret de 20 pièces de pagne wax au grand marché pour la revendre en détail sur place et au à une clientèle composée d’ homme et de femme au comptant et à crédit.
Elle envisage réaliser un bénéfice mensuel moyen de 35 000 francs CFA dont une partie est utilisée pour payer le prêt et son interêt et l’autre pour son épargne

Soro Yiriwaso is a microfinance institution that works primarily in rural and semi-urban areas of Mali to provide underprivileged communities with access to financial services.The organization facilitates access for disadvantaged clients, particularly women, to new resources and services, fostering solidarity and cooperation among its clients. Kiva lenders’ funds will enable Soro Yiriwaso to expand its outreach and target even more underserved Malians involved in business and agriculture.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.
