Ayacucho, Peru / Grocery Store

A loan of $1,075 helped buy goods such as canned fish, milk, and bags of rice, sugar, and grains.

Pelayo's story

Pelayo is 45 years old and is married to Urbana. He has 3 children who live with him in his well-built house.

Pelayo has a grocery still in the local market. He started this business with only a small amount of merchandise as a test and the establishment was quite small. After achieving good profits, though, it became his family's main source of income. His customers are mostly housewives and restaurant owners. He has the pleasure of serving his customers a large variety of fresh vegetables as well as grains and other goods that are in highest demand. He is able to make good profits in this way and gets his goods wholesale so as to keep his business well stocked.

He has now had his business for 24 years and is anxious to reach his long-term goals, which include financing his children's college education.

This is his 3rd Kiva loan and is very grateful for the support and trust that he is given. At this time, he is asking for 3,000 sols to buy wholesale goods such as canned fish, milk, and bags of rice, sugar, and grains.
