A loan of $225 helped to buy groundnuts and the ingredients for her Kanya snacks.

Lucy's story

Hello, this is Lucy. Lucy is a 42-year-old married woman from Waterloo. Waterloo is a rural province that is west of Sierra Leone’s capital city, Freetown. Lucy is married to a local worker. They have seven children, from three to 23 years old.

Lucy started her business to empower herself and to ensure that she could make a livelihood. No less than six of her children are still going to school and the business is helpful to support that.

Lucy sells groundnuts and this wonderful homemade local snack called Kanya (seen in the photo on the right). Kanya is a soft biscuit made from groundnuts, sugar and rice. She works from 8:00 am to 5:30 pm from Monday to Saturday and also cares for her children.

Lucy is a diligent BRAC Sierra Leone member. She has already taken and paid back four loans, all of which helped her to run her business. She would like to take this loan to buy groundnuts and the ingredients for her Kanya snacks.

She thanks you for your support.
