Nurana is 35 years old, married, with a daughter and a son. Her husband earns money for family working as a laborer. The members of family are refugees and have lived in an IDP settlement for a long time. Nurana has been working as a farmer for 15 years and has good skills in this area. She grows figs trees then sells them at local bazaar, and earns 150AZN monthly.

Fig is a very useful and tasty fruit. Azerbaijan people prepare jams for dessert with tea. They use it as liquor to alleviate colds. Dried figs are also very useful for health.

Nurana needs money to make her garden better. She wants to build a green house for the fig trees and protect them from severe weather. Besides that, she wants to expand her business and increase income. She needs to cover her family’s living costs and children’s education. She applied for 1500AZN in order to buy more fruit trees and raise them.

About Aqroinvest:

Aqroinvest Credit Union was founded in 2001 by a group of 32 farmers from Imishli. It has since grown to become the largest credit union in Azerbaijan, owned by its more than 5,400 borrowers and boasting a portfolio of nearly US$12 million.
AqroInvest is focused on providing loans to the following groups of people: rural farmers, people living in distant southern villages with little or no access to finance and internally displaced people and refugees, many of whom lost their homes and livelihoods during the violent conflicts in the 1990s.

In May 2011, Aqroinvest started a new project with Kiva proving higher education loans to students. The project gives students the support and financing they need to continue their education and helps pay for tuition fees at various universities in Azerbaijan. Aqroinvest is the first credit union in the country to offer students loans.
