Lansana A.'s Group's story

Salone Microfinance Trust (SMT) is very pleased to present to you this group of teachers from the eastern city of Kenema. They have come to SMT, Kiva’s oldest field partner in Sierra Leone, to apply for a loan of 11,600,000 Sierra Leonean Leones (SLL) in order to meet their most immediate and pressing financial challenges. And at the end of each month, they can easily repay the loan, using their monthly salaries. Their school’s bursar is directly responsible for handling the deductions and making the repayments on their behalf. Lansana is the featured leader of this team of hard-working, dedicated, primary school teachers. The 53-year-old is a native of Largo village, near Kenema city. He is married to a school teacher, and the couple have five children who are attending primary and secondary school. For 30 years, Lansana has been a professional school teacher. She has applied for a loan of 2,800,000 Sierra Leonean Leones (SLL) in order to pay school fees for the children.
