A loan of $300 helped to buy raw material for embroidery.

Shamshad's story

Shamshad is a 54-year-old married woman. She has been living with her husband in the area of Lahore, Pakistan. She is the mother of three daughters and two sons. She is doing embroidery work by hand at home and financially supporting her family.

She belongs to a poor family. Her husband’s income is very poor so she decided to start embroidery work at home. She had been learning this art in her childhood and now she adopted it for her occupation.

She enabled herself to be independent and earn sufficient income. She requested a loan from Kiva’s field partner BRAC Pakistan to purchase a stock of thread, silk, fancy, sequins, and pearls of various colours. She hopes that this loan will prove beneficial for her and for her family. Shamshad is very thankful to Kiva and BRAC Pakistan.
