Kanou Group's story

The Kanou Group is made up of six married women who are, on average, 33 years old and have three children. They live in traditional, extended families in the Tabakoro district of the town of Koumantou. They know one another through business, friendship and neighbourhood ties.

In order to strengthen their financial capacity and improve their businesses, the women have decided to work with the field partner, Soro Yiriwaso, this will be their first group loan.

The women sell bananas. Kadia (sitting third from the left in the photo) also sells bananas. She will use her loan to buy 50 kg of rice from wholesalers in Bougouni. She sells her product at the market and from door-to-door, to various customers, for cash or on credit.

Kadia expects to earn a monthly average of 6,500 francs CFA, which she will invest in her business and use to repay her loan.
