Baktykan's story

Baktykan is 50 years old; she and her husband have five children. The oldest son works by providing agricultural services (working the customers’ land on the family tractor). The eldest daughter is married. The middle daughter works as a seamstress. The youngest children are still in secondary school. Baktykan’s husband works at a cotton factory in season, and in his free time helps Baktykan. Baktrykan has received secondary education. As a main source of income for her family, she raises livestock and grows produce, having launched three years ago by buying livestock for 5,000 KGS. Thanks to Baktykan’s hard work, her farm now includes four dairy cows and a 1.26-ha land plot, where she grows cotton. He monthly income is 15,000 KGS. In order to develop her farm further, Baktykan has applied to the Bai Tushum microfinance institution for a loan to increase her livestock headcount by buying cows. She plans to invest the resulting revenues in an additional increase of livestock. She also plans to save up to pay for further education of her children.
