This client is a seamstress and vendor of a variety of clothing. She displays her merchandise in a house on a busy street in town. She started her business with initial capital from her husband, who is a guard at a local security agency. Later on, she benefited from a loan from the microfinance institution Hekima. She has been in this business for two years.

This new loan will be used to purchase 50 lengths of 'pagnes' (the colorful cloth of western Africa) and various clothing. She would thus like to grow her enterprise and provide education and food for her children.

In conclusion, she thanks Hekima very much for supporting autonomy among women entrepreneurs excluded from the traditional banking system, especially during this difficult time post-conflict in the country's east.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
