A loan of $850 helped a member to buy condiments.

Sabou Group's story

Group Sabou is composed of eight women; all married, they are on average 34 years old with eight children. They live in traditional extended families in the Torakabougou neighborhood of the city of Bougouni.

They met through neighbors, friends, and business relations. To increase their financial capacity and better do business, they joined micro-finance organization Soro Yiriwaso, with which it is their first loan. This group of women trades in condiments, as illustrated by the case of Marietou, the fourth woman standing in the picture, going from left to right. With her loan, she is planning on purchasing various quantities of condiments from wholesalers in Bougouni. She retails at the market and from home, taking cash from or extending credit to her mixed-gender clientele.

She is counting on an average monthly benefit of 21,000 XOF, which will be reinvested in the business and repayment of the loan.

In this group: Awa, Maïmouna, Habi, Marietou, Minata, Kadia, Chata, Batoma
