Mebakari is a married mother of five children who are in school. She owns a house that has neither electricity nor piped water. Her greatest monthly expenses are school fees and food for the family.
Mebakari has operated a cashew nut selling business at the market for the past thirteen years, selling to passersby and neighbours. She cited seasonality as her major challenge in the business.
With the 30,000 Kenyan Shillings (KES) she wants to purchase sacks of cashew nuts for resale. She joined Yehu to boost her business.
About Yehu Microfinance Trust
This loan is administered by Yehu Microfinance Trust, which was founded in 1998 as a project of CHOICE Humanitarian Kenya. In July 2007, Yehu became a separate entity from CHOICE and was registered as a trust. Since then, Yehu has expanded to cover over half of Kenya’s 13 coastal districts.
