Delia's story

Delia is 48 years old and studied until the third grade of primary school. She is married, has five children and lives on Los Niños Avenue, Mazocruz district, in the province of El Collao, Puno.

One day she was invited to the reunion of friends of the commual bank "Generación 2000" in Mazocruz, where she learned their method of business. She decided to become a member 1 ½ years ago and, with her initial loan of 300.00 soles, she purchased 3 alpacas.

She started selling mates (a type of South American herbal tea) and coffee in Mazocruz when she was twelve years old, accumulating capital. She also prepared food to sell on market days. At 20 years of age she married and continued to sell food, while her husband sold alpaca, llama and sheep meat which he delivered to the wholesalers of the city of Tacna. Currently, she dedicates herself to the sale of meat, delivering 20 to 30 butchered animals per week.

With this credit of 1,500.00 soles, to be repaid in four installments, she plans to purchase seven alpacas which she will deliver as meat to the wholesalers in the city of Tacna.

“The communal bank is good for us because we can obtain a loan quickly and without a lot of complicated paperwork, which is positive for us”, states Mrs. Delia.

Her dreams include buying a truck to transport livestock that she brings from the communities of Wilacota, Asani, Huaitiri, Titijani, and continuing to support her children’s educations.
