Fany's story

Fany, 32 years old, lives with her husband and children in the village of Caserío Playa Azul, in a rural zone in the district of Pucará, which has hot weather and where the people are mostly farmers, traders, and animal husbanders. Pucará is located in the province of Jaén, in the region of Cajamarca, in the northern mountains of Peru. Fany raises and sells small farm animals such as ducks, hens and pigs. Her business is located at the back of her house, and she also sells seasonal fruit. She has been in business for two years. Together with her husband, she sells the animals at the district market. Fany asks for a loan of 1,500 soles in order to buy balanced feed to fatten her animals so that they fetch a higher price.
