A loan of $1,500 helped to buy farming supplies and to pay for labor to care for her coffee crops.

Marlen's story

Thanks to her first loan Marlen bought the supplies and fertilizers she needed to tend to her coffee crops. She was able to protect them from pests, diseases, and other things that could have affected them if they had not been treated in time. She is thankful for the help she received from Kiva's lenders and from the COMIXMUL Cooperative, who she believes is very invested in the wellbeing and development of every one of its small producers and all others.

Marlen is now asking for a second loan that she will invest in manure, fertilizers, and in paying for labor to treat her coffee crops and to clear them, as after they are cut the crops are in bad shape and have a lot of shrubbery. Marlen thinks the loans are a great help because they improve her crops and provide relief from the concerns that sometimes arise because they can be used for what is needed, which is the improvement and care for the seed, the plant, and the property, when necessary.
