A loan of $1,500 helped to buy agricultural supplies and pay hired help to care for her coffee crops.

Francis Mileydis's story

Ms. Francis is very happy and content. Thanks to her first loan that was offered by the COMIXMUL cooperative in alliance with the Kiva investors, she was able to buy fertilizers, manure, and fungicides among others. With those she was able to maintain her coffee crops, keeping the plants, grain, and land from deteriorating. She was able to have a good harvest, which she sold to the different intermediaries in the area.

Ms. Francis has recently requested a second loan from the cooperative, which she will invest in buying more manure, fertilizers, and hired help since that is one of the greatest needs she has because of damage in previous years caused by coffee rust in a variety off coffee she had planted. Finishing this purchase and activity will hopefully improve her coffee production since her crops are almost recuperated from this illness, since she has the disadvantage that her previous harvest was diminished when the disease attacked.

Ms. Francis wants to keep her business in excellent condition, to harvest other areas where she planted coffee, and she wants her children to study and have a better future. She says that the loan will help her a lot to improve her production by applying manure to the land, since part of the earnings will be reused, and the rest will pay her debt to this institution to be able to continue being helped.
