A loan of $1,050 helped to buy bed covers, floor coverings, rugs, arab couscous, and milk powder.

Fatoumata's story

Fatouma was born in 1964 in Gao, the seventh administrative region of the Republic of Mali. She is married, a mother of nine children, and lives in Bougoula, in Sikasso (the third administrative region in the Republic of Mali).

Fatoumata has been working buying and selling bed covers, floor coverings, rugs, arab couscous, and milk powder for 12 years. She is on her sixth loan with the micro-finance institution Soro Yirwaso, as a way to better satisfy her customers who are growing in number. Her previous loans have all been repaid correctly.

This loan will allow her to buy and then sell 50 bed covers, floor coverings, 20 rugs, 30 25-kilogram sacs of milk powder, and a large quantity of arab couscous. She procures her goods from Algeria via Gao.

She travels around and makes her sales for cash and credit to men and women customers.

Fatouma hopes to earn an average monthly income of 175,000 francs CFA. These earnings will allow her to pay back her loan and interest and to invest in her business.
