A loan of $2,200 helped a member to pay schools fees for his children.

Lawrence M.'s Group's story

Pictured here are teachers from the city of Kenema, in eastern Sierra Leone. This group of teachers has come to SMT, a partner of Kiva, to apply for a loan of SLL 9,500,000 for the entire team. With the help of this loan, they are going to meet their most immediate and most pressing financial needs. And, at the end of each month, they can easily repay the loan using their monthly salaries. It is their school’s bursar who is directly responsible for doing the deductions and making the repayments on their behalf.

Lawrence is the featured leader of this team of teachers. Lawrence was born in Kenema. The 55-year-old is married and has 7 children, 5 of whom are attending primary and secondary schools. Lawrence has been a school teacher for 29 years now. He has requested this loan in order to pay schools fees for his children.
