A loan of $3,350 helped a member to pay his college fees.

Samuel's Group's story

Salone Microfinance Trust (SMT) is very pleased to present to you this group of teachers from the eastern city of Kenema. This group of hard-working and dedicated school teachers has come to SMT to apply for a combined loan of SLL 14,500,000 (Sierra Leonean Leones) in order to meet their most immediate and pressing financial needs. And at the end of each month, they can easily repay the loan, using their monthly salaries. It is their school’s bursar who is directly responsible for doing the deductions and making the repayments on their behalf.

Samuel is the featured leader of this group of teachers. Born in Segbewama, the 41-year-old man is married to a student and the couple has two children attending schools/colleges. Samuel has been a school teacher for 18 years now. However, he is currently pursuing further studies in college. He has, therefore, applied for this loan in order to pay his college fees.

(Also included in the photo was a borrower who was disqualified from the group by loan officer after taking the group snap shot)
