A loan of $1,675 helped to purchase a Sistema Biobolsa biodigester and biogas stove.

María Luisa's story

María Luisa comes from a long line of Tlaxcalan farmers and is focused on continuing the tradition, despite unfavorable conditions for smallholder farms. With an inner strength belied by her size, María Luisa is forging forward, looking for ways to improve the economic viability of her production. By investing in her 20 cubic meter Sistema Biobolsa biodigester, she plans on better utilizing the animal waste on-site. The reactor will convert manure into renewable biogas and potent biofertilizer, allowing her to displace the non-renewable propane she currently uses to cook and heat bathwater, as well as helping her improve her yields without spending on excessively expensive and damaging agrochemical fertilizers. This loan represents 46% of the total cost of her biodigester and biogas stove.
