Lisa's story

Lisa is a Business Management Student at the Maharishi Institute. Lisa is 21 years old and was asked the following questions by a staff member of the Institute:

What do you study at the Maharishi Institute and what classes do you enjoy most?

“I am studying Bachelor of Business Administration. The classes I enjoy the most are the consciousness-based classes because I am able to get in touch with my inner self and my confidence is boosted by always having to talk in front of my peers.”

What are your goals after graduation?

“I would like to work in an organisation that values team work and encourages innovative ideas so that I can give back to the community. I would like to work in the business sector initially in Johannesburg, but then I would like to travel and explore how other people do business and learn from their strengths.”

Tell us about your background?

“I was born in Zimbabwe and have one little sister. When I was nine years old, both my parents passed away and we have been cared for by my grandmother ever since. My little sister is in grade 9. I come from a loving and supportive family, and even though we don’t have much, we have each other and that is important. I am not married and I don’t have children.”

What do you do in your spare time?

“I love to read and listen to music. I spend most of my free time finding motivational and inspirational books that have lessons that I can learn. I am also adventurous and like to do things that I’ve never done before.”

How will the Kiva loan change your life?

“This loan will change my life because it will relieve some of my worries about paying for my studies. If I worry less, I’ll be happier and healthier.”
