Laidou Group

The Laidou group is made up of 4 married women with an average age of 26 and, on average, 3 children. They live in nuclear families in the district of Heremakono Nord in Bougouni town. They got to know each other via neighbourly relationships, friendships and business. They joined the Soro Yiriwaso MFI in order to strengthen their financial capacity so that they can better do business and are on their 8th loan. The previous loans have been properly repaid.

Kadia, the woman who is sitting in the picture, sells fruit and vegetables. She plans to use her loan to buy 70 bunches of plantains from the wholesalers in Bougouni. She makes her sales at the market and door-to-door for cash or credit to a varied retail clientèle. She expects to make an average monthly profit of 25 000 francs which she will reinvest in her business and use to repay the loan.
Le groupe LAIDOU est constitué de 4 femmes toutes mariées ayant une moyenne d’âge de 26 ans et 3 enfants. Elles vivent dans des familles nucléaires dans le quartier HEREMAKONO NORD de la ville de Bougouni.
Elles se sont connues à travers des liens de voisinage, d’amitié et de commerce. Pour renforcer leur capacité financière afin de mieux faire leur commerce, elles ont adhéré à l’institution de microfinance Soro Yiriwaso avec laquelle elles sont à leur 8ème prêt. Les prêts précédents ont été correctement remboursés. Ce groupe de femmes fait le commerce de fruits et légumes à l’image de KADIA qui est la femme assise dans la photo. Elle compte acheter avec son prêt, 70 régimes de bananes plantain avec les grossistes de Bougouni. Elle effectue ses ventes au marché et à domicile, en détail au comptant et à crédit à une clientèle mixte .
Elle envisage réaliser un bénéfice mensuel moyen de 25.000FCFA qui sera investi dans les activités et rembourser le prêt.

Soro Yiriwaso is a microfinance institution that works primarily in rural and semi-urban areas of Mali to provide underprivileged communities with access to financial services.The organization facilitates access for disadvantaged clients, particularly women, to new resources and services, fostering solidarity and cooperation among its clients. Kiva lenders’ funds will enable Soro Yiriwaso to expand its outreach and target even more underserved Malians involved in business and agriculture.

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.
