Benedicta Angélica's story

Mrs. Benedicta Angélica R. D. H. is 70 years old and lives on Avenue Los Incas 318, in the district of Mache, province of Otuzco, department of La Libertad Perú. She only studied until first graD., "My parents didn't support my schooling as they thought we would write boys," she says with a nostalgic smile. Benedicta married Mr. José H. Mariñas at the age of 20 and together they have 12 children, 7 boys and 5 girls. Two of them still depend on her financially as they're still studying. She started selling breads, sweets, etc. when she was 14. Now she sells winter clothes that she makes herself. She's been working with Manuela Ramos (microfinancier) for approximately 10 years. Her first loan was for about $100 which she used to purchase flour, lard, and sugar; and that she paid back in 4 months. With this loan for $1025, that she will repay in 4 months, she will buy clothes (64 jackets maD. of taslam fiber, a breathable, waterproof fabric). Benedicta belongs to the neighborhood Comedor Popular (where poor families share donated food and cook together) and the Communal Bank Working Women. Her wish is to reunite her entire family and have a big party.
