Danaya Group's story

The Danaya Group consists of six married women who have an average age of 38 years and an average of five children each. They live in traditional extended families in the Dougounina district of the city of Bougouni. They know one another through ties of vicinity, friendship and commerce. To increase their financial capacity and improve their commerce, the group joined the microfinance institution Soro Yiriwaso and are currently on their third loan cycle. Their two prior loans loans have been repaid in full.

This group of women sells cosmetics. Ba Diallo is shown in the photo standing on the far right. With her loan, she intends to purchase various grades of cosmetics from wholesalers in Bougouni. Ba Diallo retails her merchandise at the market and from her home, for cash and on credit to a mixed clientele. She hopes to earn an average monthly income of 50,000 Francs CFA which she will use to reinvest in her business and repay her loan.
