A loan of $800 helped to buy potato seeds and fertilizer.

Ibadat's story

Ibadat is a 59-year-old widow. She has looked after her 7 children alone since her husband's death in November 2013. Ibadat has struggled and survived great pain and the loss of her spouse. Her children are all married and live independently. As time has passed, Ibadat has gotten herself back on her feet, and continues to live and believe things will get better. She has a secondary school education.

As the primary means of supporting her family, Ibadat raises crops. She began farming 30 years ago, with 2,000 som (KGS). Thanks to her hard work, today Ibadat has a 0.54 ha share of farmland, on which she grows potatoes for her own subsistence as well as for income. Her monthly income consists of 15,000 som (KGS).

Ibadat has applied for a loan at "Bai Tushum" Bank to finance the purchase of mineral soil amendments and potato seeds for sowing. Credit will enable the further growth of her farm. With the income from the investment, Ibadat plans to save to further develop her fields. She also plans to save the means to build new space for livestock, as she is determined to expand into animal husbandry in the future.
