Niño De Praga (Cuenca) Group's story

Niño de Praga group is comprised of 6 women who live in the town of Cuenca, known for its architectural beauty which granted it a spot on the World Heritage list. Four rivers run through and around it, and the beautiful natural landscape boasts a lot of mountains. The members of the group are entrepreneurs who work very hard every day in order to improve their families' financial stability and give ther children a better future. They uphold the culture and traditions of their ancestors. Nancy, one of the members, is on her third loan together with her friends and comrades of the group. She likes this type of communal loans because of the sense of closeness to the other women, and because each meeting is the opportunity to discuss several topics and share past experiences. Nancy is 32 years old and a single mother of a child of 8 years, who goes to a school in the city. She does not have a house of her own and thus lives with her parents, with whom she shares household costs. Her parents do own their house. Nancy has been working at the canteen at a school for the past year and selling jewellery for two years. She sells her wares to her friends as well as door-to-door in the city. She will use the loan to buy more merchandise and make her business grow. Her goal is to learn a profession, which motivated her to start studying in order to become a preschool aide.
