A loan of $3,425 helped a member to buy fabrics and sacks of charcoal.


Lotus Group's story

Yusuph, who was born in the early 1960s, is married and has got two daughters and two sons. All of his children are in school. Yusuph, who is a chairperson of the Lotus group, has been earning his living by running a clothes business. When he gets back home from his clothing business, Yusuph extends his workday by selling charcoal as a business. He starts his business day from 8 am and works to 6 pm per working day and is able to make a fair monthly profit.

This is Yusuph’s twelfth loan request from Tujijenge Tanzania. He used the previous loans to buy new products so as to make his business grow. Yusuph used his business profit to pay for his children's school fees and household expenses. With this new loan request, he will buy fabrics and sacks of charcoal. He dreams of improving his business and supporting his children up to university level.

He will share this loan with his loan group "Lotus” which consists of 13 members. The members of the group will hold each other accountable for paying back the loan.
