Julius's story

Julius is 29 years old and is married with two children. He earns his income through the sale of crops and livestock, and he receives a monthly wage as a Community Knowledge Worker (CKW). Community Knowledge Workers are trusted community members who provide agricultural data and advice to rural farmers in their local area, including information about the weather, market prices, crop diseases and agricultural tools. On his land, Julius grows eggplants, beans, coffee, vegetables, passion fruits and bananas. He also has goats and chickens.

Julius has served as a CKW for the last two years, and he looks forward to renewing his CKW contract for the next three years.

As a CKW, he will use the materials in his business-in-a-box (smartphone, solar charging set, and weighing scale) to disseminate vital agricultural information to the other members of his village, which will help them to improve their crop yields and increase their incomes. With the additional money he will earn as a CKW, Julius will meet school requirements for his children and invest in farming. His biggest dream in life is to see his fellow farmers adopt better farming methods and improve their standards of living
