A loan of $4,900 helped a member to pay for her new business stock.

Mkombozi Mwenge Group's story

Sharifa is her mid-50's and is a widowed woman. Sharifa has five children, three sons and two daughters; only one of them lives at home and is school. The rest have finished schooling.

For a period of 20 years now, Sharifa has made her living by running a genge selling fruits and vegetables. Sharifa gets up earlier in the morning (7 am) to start her business. Sometimes she needs to start in the market center to buy new fruits and vegetables. Her business is not located far from her home, so it ends at night (8 pm). She is able to make a very good profit per day.

Sharifa is requesting a loan from Tujijenge Tanzania, which is her tenth loan from Kiva partner Tujijenge. She will use this loan to pay for new business stock.

She used her previous loans, all of which were paid back successfully, to restock her business with fruits and vegetables.

Sharifa used her business profit to build a house, bought home furniture, and covered school fees and home expenses. She dreams of expanding her business up to a genge duka.

Sharifa will share this loan with her loan group,” Mkombozi”, which consists of eight members. The members of the group will hold each other accountable for paying back the loan.

In this group: Sharifu, Aziza, Salum, Ramia, Shabiru, Mohamed, Dallia, Eliasi
