Gocha's story

Gocha is a 42-year-old married man from the village of Akhalsheni. He lives with his wife and school-aged son. Gocha's wife is a cook at a private dining-room and monthly generates 350 GEL. Gocha is involved in agricultural activity. He works hard on family-owned agricultural land, growing citrus and vegetables. He always has high quality products, which are sold to local retailers for a good price.

As he has only seasonal income, Gocha decided to start a taxi business and seek credit among local financial institutions. The start-up program, that is joint initiative between Kiva and Credo, enables rural poor and inexperienced people to get a loan for starting or re-starting businesses. His application was approved under the framework of this program to get a loan of 300 USD for purchasing a car to serve local people as a taxi driver.
