A loan of $625 helped a member to buy fish for resale.

Ben Group's story

The four members of the 'Ben' Group are all married women, with an average age of forty-one years, and an average of four children. Most of them live in polygamous families in Ouayerma I, a busy district in the town of Sikasso (third administrative region of Mali).

This will be the third loan for the group, who work with the field partner, Soro Yiriwaso, in order to satisfy the needs of their customers. The previous loans have all been fully and correctly repaid.

Kadia (on the far right of the photo) sells fish. She will use her loan to buy 55kg of fish (20kg of fresh fish, and 35kg of smoked fish). She buys her supplies in Sikasso, and sells them from a fixed stall in the market, for cash, to both men and women.

Kadia expects to earn a monthly average of 30,000 francs CFA, and will use her earnings to repay her loan and interest, and save for the future.
