A loan of $400 helped to purchase construction materials for making improvements on her home.

María's story

Maria is 45 years old, married, and has 6 children: 3 men and 3 women; she currently lives with her family in the village of San Jorge, Solola. She works making and selling costume jewelry (items made with beads) that she sells in her community market as well as to tourists that visit areas close to her community (Panajachel); she learned how to do this when she was very young and was helping her friends to make the items that she now sells. Through this activity, that is in high demand and has good prices, she earns the money that she needs to cover personal and family expenses. She has been doing this for 24 years. She wants to improve her family's quality of life and that is why she is asking for a loan of 3,000 GTQ for the purchase of construction materials to make improvements on her home. Maria dreams of having a home that is complete and high-quality so that her family has a decent place to live.
