A loan of $1,500 helped to buy tiles and wood for the roof of her house.

Fredesvinda's story

Fredesvinda, 69, only studied until second grade as her parent’s financial situation at the time didn’t allow her to go any further. She is a widow with 8 children; all but one have partners and are now living abroad. Living with her in her house, she only has one son and 3 grandchildren aged 15, 14 and 8. Her grandchildren are studying at the moment and are the only people who depend on her financially.

Fredesvinda takes care of the household chores and looks after her grandchildren. She tells us that she has been doing this work since she was little as it is a job that she inherited from her mother, who also learnt it when she was little. For her, it is a very important job and she feels very proud to do this for the family. Thanks to her efforts, all her children are now grown up and can now help her when she works in the home.

She will use the loan to repair her home which has deteriorated a little, especially the roof. She will buy tiles and wood to repair the roof. This will make for a more comfortable home for her and her grandchildren, without the danger of the roof falling in, which has always been a problem and a great concern for them when it rains.

She hopes to have a nice standard of living for her and her family in the future and to have a better home to enjoy. She also hopes that her grandchildren grow up to be good people in society and are able to continue studying until university. She says that she will achieve all this with the help of God and this and future loans that she might ask for in the future to improve her standard of living.
