Beatriz Elena
Beatriz is 30 years old. She is the mother of three children, aged 11, 9 and 4. She has been the main breadwinner since she separated from her ex-husband, and she bears all of the financial responsibility alone.

She has worked as a stylist for several years, offering her services at -home and working different days in different beauty salons, where she must share her earnings with the proprietor. This decreases her profit margin. That is why she is motivated to ask for a loan in order to open her own beauty salon which she will locate in a space in her own home, so she can work and care for her children at the same time. The money will be invested in buying a shampoo chair, a work station, mirrors, dryers, and hair straightener, as well as to decorate the space. This way, she will be able to start her productive project with which she hopes to improve her family's finances.

In this way, Beatriz will be making one of her main dreams come true. She is aware that the biggest challenge is to position the business and become known in the area, attracting new customers and earning the loyalty of the ones she has with quality service. She will be able to offer her children a better well being, education and quality of life. She will also spend more time with them.

More information about this loan

By supporting this loan, you're helping a borrower launch a new business!

This loan is designed for an entrepreneur who needs working capital to start a brand new business. Along with the loan, Kiva's field partner Interactuar provides counseling, training courses, and other financial resources to help new, riskier entrepreneurs set up young businesses.

Important Information

This loan is structured on Kiva as a bullet loan, which means a single payment is required at the end of the loan term. By Colombian law, Kiva's partner Interactuar is required to offer borrowers loans with a variable interest rate that fluctuates with the market rate. Because fixed monthly payments are applied first to interest and then to principal, Interactuar is unable to predict upfront what portion of each repayment would go towards the loan principal. This creates a challenge with Kiva's system, which doesn't allow for unpredictable principal payments, and can result in some Interactuar clients appearing falsely delinquent. To remedy this, the loan has an end-of-term repayment plan on Kiva, but the borrower will continue scheduled monthly repayments to Interactuar, who will then pass along the principal amount to Kiva lenders. This means that you may see repayments made on this loan throughout the repayment term, as opposed to receiving repayment in full at the end of the loan term.
