A loan of $725 helped to buy manure for his coffee crops.

Jose Gavino's story

31-year-old José Gavino lives with his wife in the village of Vista Alegre, a rural area in the Pimpingos district. His village depends on agriculture, trade and cattle rearing. The community, known for its green countryside, is six hours away from the city of Cutervo, which lies in the Cajamarca region of Peru's northern sierra.
José works in agriculture and concentrates mainly on growing the Catimor variety of coffee plant. For four years he and his wife have tended 2 hectares and have also bred and sold small animals such as ducks, pigs and hens at the rear of their home.

José has applied for a loan of 2,000 nuevos soles to buy manure for his coffee crops. This will enable him to have a good yield so he can sell his crops at a good price and thereby generate more income for his family.
