A loan of $2,350 helped buy a Sistema Biobolsa biodigester and biogas stove.

Pablo's story

Pablo is a passionate Poblano farmer focused on providing for his family through what they grow. As is typical for small Mexican farmers, margins are tight and he does not turn a large profit. Despite that, the farm represents the family's primary income source and so Pablo is constantly looking to reduce his operating costs while maintaining or improving yields. He is investing in a 30 cubic meter Sistema Biobolsa biodigester and biogas stove in order to save money, reduce the environmental impact of his farm, and to better use the abundant cow manure available on his farm. The biodigester will treat the animal waste through anaerobic digestion, generating clean-burning, renewable biogas and a potent biofertilizer. Pablo and his family will use the biogas to reduce their reliance on non-renewable propane in the kitchen and for heating bathwater; the biofertilizer will help him improve the soil quality of his terrain without having to spend on expensive, agrochemical fertilizers. Pablo's loan represents 50% of the total cost of his biodigester and biogas stove.
