A loan of $1,425 helped to buy clothing, Avon products, as well as soldering supplies and paints for her husband's work.

Marcela Filerma's story

The Communal Bank "Mujeres Unidas" (United Women) meets every 15 days in the neighborhood of Abdón Calderón in the city of Manta. This city is well-known for its beautiful beaches that are frequented throughout the year. It is also a city that is unequaled in its beauty and has many tourists attractions.

Sra. Marcela lives in this place. She is 37 years old, married, and has two children (ages 10 and 7) who are in school. Her husband is a master welder and works at a boat repair shop.

In order to have her own income and to pay for her children's education, Doña Marcela sells clothing through catalogs and Avon products (beauty products, cosmetics, perfumes, and women's accessories). She sells by going door to door. Marcela offers her products on credit and then collects payments weekly or every 15 days. She will also give part of her loan to her husband so that he can buy materials for his work. He does welding on different boats that come to the dock in need of repairs so that they can return to their fishing jobs. Through these activities, Marcela and her husband are able to get ahead.

This loan will be used to buy clothing, Avon products, as well as soldering supplies and paints for her husband's work. Marcela has been with her Communal Bank from the beginning and she enjoys being a member because of the assistance she has received with the loans. Her dream is to have a successful bazaar.
