Estrella Del Carmen's story

The Credit Group "Mujeres Unidas" (Women United) meets every fifteen days in the neighborhood Abdón Calderón in Manta, a city known for its gorgeous all-year-round beaches, and its unrivaled beauty, with many tourist attractions. This is where Estrella, age 47, lives. She is in a common-law relationship, from which she has five grown children, although the youngest lives in her home. Her partner is a master welder. Estrella is a home-maker who, in order to obtain her own resources and help her spouse with the household expenses, works selling clothing from a catalog and Yanbal products (beauty products, cosmetics, perfume, and women's accessories). She works three days a week from two to three hours a day. On weekends she also runs a small stand in her home where she sells seafood onion stew that brings in good profits. Estrella has been doing that work for four years and it is going very well. This loan is to buy perfumes, lotions, cosmetics, and supplies for the onion stew. She has been in the Credit Group for four years and she likes it because of the help the loans give her. Her dream is to move forward.
