A loan of $1,100 helped to finance auto body repairs and new tires.

Gladys Del Jesús's story

The communal bank "Mujeres Unidas" meets every 15 days in the Abdón Calderón neighborhood of the city of Manta. This is a city known for its beautiful beaches that are visited every season of the year, and for being a city of unequaled beauty with many tourist attractions.

This is where Gladys, 60, lives. She is in a common-law marriage that has produced 4 children who are now grown and independent. Her husband works as a driver.

Gladys, like the good wife that she is, will take this loan for her husband to use. He has a vehicle that he uses to carry freight throughout the city. He goes out in the mornings to the local markets where the merchants hire him to take their products to various parts of the city and surrounding areas. This is how he supports the family. Since his vehicle is a bit run down, he needs a loan to make some repairs to it, because this is the only source of income he has to get ahead with his family.

This new loan will be used to repair the body of the vehicle and to buy the new tires that it needs. Gladys has been with her communal bank for 3 loan cycles, and she likes it because the group is very organized and accomplished. Her dream is to buy a newer vehicle.
