A loan of $3,925 helped a member to purchase a Jersey cow and renovate its shade.


Biswa Dolagobinda Shg Group's story

The "Biswa Dolagobinda SHG" group consists of sixteen women from a small village of Odisha, India. All the members of this group are engaged in different activities like animal rearing, vegetable selling, milk selling, etc. They help and support each other in their business activities, as well as in their personal life. All the group members are dedicated and committed to enhance their business and make a handsome amount of money, so that they will be able to educate their children and have a better standard of life.

One of the group members is Saraswati, the lady standing first from the right. She is thirty-one years old, a married lady, and lives with her parents-in-law, husband and her two children, aged three and six years. Her first child goes to a local school.

She has been engaged in cow rearing and cows’ milk selling for the last three years. From this activity, she is able to contribute a small share to her family's household expenditures. She wants to register her first child in a good school.

She, along with all the group members, has requested a loan to invest in their respective businesses for enhancing their business activity. Saraswati will use her portion to purchase a Jersey cow and renovate its shade.

She is very excited to take this loan, and she says, "We are grateful to Kiva and its lenders for providing us this opportunity."
